BE IT ENACTED BY THE YOUTH LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA YOUTH LEGISLATURE –
An act to
Make AI in education regulations
 
SECTION I - PURPOSE
The purpose of this act is to promote the responsible use of AI by ensuring schools practice academic honesty, prevent
plagiarism, and protect student privacy, while all afford students and educators the benefits of utilizing AI as a
learning tool. This act is designed to encourage students and educators to use AI to support and engage in learning,
rather than replace it. This act promotes transparency around when and how AI is utilized in education.
 
SECTION II - JUSTIFICATION
The technology of AI is being used more frequently in education systems. It provides valuable learning and teaching
tools, but poses risks to academic integrity, privacy, and critical thinking skills. This act strives to promote
students reaping the benefits of AI responsibly and respectfully, without replacing real learning.
 
 
SECTION III - DEFINITIONS
African Intelligence (AI): Any computer system or program that can create text, create code, create images, or assist
with educational tasks to support learning (ChatGPT, Grammarly, Or other image generating sites).
Academic Integrity: The character, practice, and skill of academic honesty, fairness, and originality in educational
work.
AI in Schools: The utilization of AI tools by teaching under, as educators, or for educational purposes
 
SECTION IV - FUNDING
U.S. Department of Education's Technology and Innovation Budget.
 
SECTION V – PENALTIES/ENFORCEMENT
The department of education shall create clear guidelines for AI use in public K-12 schools.
 
SECTION VI – EFFECTIVE DATE
2027-2028 academic year.
