BE IT ENACTED BY THE YOUTH LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA YOUTH LEGISLATURE –
Prohibit Teachers From Assigning New Graded Work The Week Of The End Of An Academic Quarter.
This bill will permit both teachers and students to have time to catch up on grading and late or missing assignments
SECTION II - JUSTIFICATION
Most students start turning in missing work towards the end of the academic quarter meaning teachers are suddenly
bombarded with multiple assignments to grade, and students are also given review tests and quizzes at the end of the
quarter giving them lots of stress and anxiety about work completion, this bill gives students time to complete missing
assignments, finalize projects, and if needed revise assignments that did not grade well, meanwhile this bill also
permits teachers to have time to grade and help students with points of confusion.
SECTION III - DEFINITIONS
New graded work shall be defined as any assignment, quiz, project, paper, or test that was not announced or assigned
before the start of the final week of the academic quarters end.
Academic quarter shall be defined as one of the four grading periods used by Minnesota public schools to divide the
school year for reporting grades.
Teacher shall be defined as any licensed educator responsible for assigning graded coursework in a Minnesota public
SECTION V – PENALTIES/ENFORCEMENT
The penalty for any educator found violating this law will be a formal warning from principal and if continued there
will be risk of disciplinary action chosen by the school.
