BE IT ENACTED BY THE YOUTH LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA YOUTH LEGISLATURE –
An act to
Increase Walkability In Suburban Areas
 
SECTION I - PURPOSE
Suburban areas have to become too dependent on cars leading to them being unsafe for walkers and bikers. This bill is
meant to increase the amount of sidewalks so people can travel safely without a car.
 
SECTION II - JUSTIFICATION
Roughly 65% of all pedestrian deaths occur in areas without sidewalks. This bill will reduce the amount of accidents in
which pedestrians are injured or killed allowing children or simply anyone who wants to go for a walk, jog, or run to
travel safely without worry.
 
SECTION III - DEFINITIONS
Suburb: an outlying district of a city, especially a residential one.
Pedestrian: a person walking along a road or in a developed area.
 
 
SECTION IV - FUNDING
Increase the sales tax on car sales by 0.125%. This money will be used to fund the sidewalks being made.
