BE IT ENACTED BY THE YOUTH LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA YOUTH LEGISLATURE –
An act to
Increase knowledge about the knights of the forest and the Ho-chunk nation in public schools.

SECTION I - PURPOSE
Not many students are taught the full history of Minnesota and the contributions that the Ho-chunk nation and the
knights of the forest had to Minnesota history. By increasing the knowledge given about knights of the forest and the
Ho-chunk nation in Minnesota students are able to get a full grasp on the history of Minnesota and are able to
understand the real and true history of this state.

SECTION II - JUSTIFICATION
In 1863 the Ho-chunk people were exiled from Minnesota after being given trust land in Blue Earth County MN this was due
to the Knights of the Forest. This organization was the primary reason for their forced removal where hundreds of
Ho-chunk people died during their removal. This was a secret society only coming to light after 2004 after a time
capsule was found giving details about the secret organization and their purpose of eliminating all native Americans in
Minnesota. The organization was only in Minnesota and its only purpose was to eliminate all native Americans from
Minnesota and it was because of them why many natives were murdered and exiled. Though these actions can never be
corrected the state can make progress to make sure that Minnesotans are taught the real yet unfortunate past of
Minnesota so that they may be better informed.

SECTION III - DEFINITIONS

SECTION IV - FUNDING
No funding should be necessary due to the fact that all information on the topic of knight of the forest can be found in
depth for free.

SECTION V – PENALTIES/ENFORCEMENT
If a school district does not use the money that is provided under the indigenous education for all initiative for its
intended purpose that funding can be revoked and schools will be expected to repay funds used for unintended purposes.

SECTION VI – EFFECTIVE DATE
This act shall take effect August 1st following passage and approval by the state legislature and Governor of Minnesota.
