BE IT ENACTED BY THE YOUTH LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA YOUTH LEGISLATURE –
Create a Required AI Course in Minnesota Public Schools.
A required AI course in all Minnesota Public Schools would allow students to prepare themselves for future careers.
SECTION II - JUSTIFICATION
Requiring an AI course would set Minnesota students ahead for whatever career they might embark on. Approximately one in
five U.S. workers use AI in their jobs, but the figure can be higher depending on the survey and industry; for example,
43% of workers report using AI frequently, and 90% of tech professionals worldwide use it daily. The use of AI is even
higher among younger, more educated workers in technology, finance, and management positions. These well-paid, desirable
positions are easier to get when an applicant can say they are well-versed in AI. Additionally, humans have had a very
hard time distinguishing AI photos/videos from real photos/videos. This has made the general population much more
susceptible to false news.
SECTION III - DEFINITIONS
AI Course: a school class that teaches how to use AI effectively, teaches how to spot AI, and how to identify its flaws.
Required Class: a course that the Minnesota Department of Education requires as a Minnesota State Standard.
Funded by the Minnesota Department of Education, which is funded by a combination of state and federal sources.
SECTION V – PENALTIES/ENFORCEMENT
Enforced by the Minnesota Department of Education.
SECTION VI – EFFECTIVE DATE
Work on the curriculum shall begin by June 1, 2026, and it shall be implemented by August 1, 2027.
